December 5, 2019 Update

Aloha Parents & Guardians,

I hope you all had a restful Thanksgiving break with friends and family.

It’s hard to believe, but now we are in the last stretch of the first semester. As the last day nears, here are some friendly reminders:

If your child is joining us for breakfast, please drop them off early so they do not miss instruction when the class begins at 8:10 for 6th grade and 8:25 for 7th and 8th grade. Breakfast is served beginning at 7:35 am Monday through Friday.

There will be a Winter Wonderland school dance on Friday, December 6th from 5:00 - 6:30.  A $2 donation is a suggestion at the door in order to support the current and further school events.  Food and beverages will be provided.  Please make sure that your student is picked up promptly at 6:30 as there will be no supervision afterward.

Students in grades 6-8 will have their exhibition on Friday, December 20 from 11:00-12:00. School ends at 12:00 that day for all students. There is no aftercare, KYC transportation or open lab provided that day, however, lunch will be offered.

The last day of the semester is December 20. Please check with your child’s teacher when the last day is to submit late work. Progress reports will be emailed during the winter break.

Please check the lost & found in the cafeteria before we go on break for any lost items. There are many lunch boxes, water flasks and clothing items that are filling the shelves. Any items left during the break will be donated to a local charity.

Winter break is December 23-January 6. Students return Tuesday, January 7.

We look forward to seeing you all at the Student Exhibition later this month!

Rest assured that our faculty and administrators will treat the drill with the utmost care as not to cause fear or undo alarm for our students.

Aloha 6th Grade Parents & Guardians,

We have come to an end of the fourth week of school. It has been a pleasure to get to know our students, and to see how they thrive in an environment where they are able to practice 21st Century Skills daily.

The traffic seems to be less of an issue now that we are in a consistent routine for drop off and dismissal. Adults dropping off students in the morning must keep the line of traffic flowing. If you need to give last minute instructions or conversations, please park on the opposite side of the road and walk your student across the street to the campus. Also please remember that there is no adult supervision on campus before 7:00am. Students are not permitted on campus before that time.

Kihei Charter School is committed to the continued practice of updating school emergency preparedness plans. This week all students took part in the first emergency drill of the school year. It went well as all of the students practiced safe protocols that were discussed in class prior to the drill. We will continue to evaluate and refine school security measures throughout the school year with the goal of student safety always at the forefront.
Further, we have established a safety committee to discuss safety practices and protocols. The committee will meet throughout the school year to continue to raise the bar for school safety.

If your child will be absent please call the office at (808) 875-0700. Students must provide a note to the front office upon returning to school.

Federal Survey Impact Forms will be distributed on Wednesday, September 4. Please complete the survey and return to school the next day, September 5.
