Ms. DeMott - 7th Grade Science
Ms. Carrie DeMott is joining the Kihei Charter School team with over two decades of experience in traditional and outdoor experiential education. Ms. DeMott earned her Master’s degree in Education at Virginia Commonwealth University while she worked as a climbing guide to help pay for school. She has taught in public, private, and international schools, and has enjoyed facilitating place-based Science on Maui for the past 13 years.
Ms. DeMott has presented at many teacher workshops focusing on field studies in the area of geology and the formation of the Hawaiian Islands, Science Olympiad, coral reef ecology, and experiential education. She has strong connections volunteering and introducing students to local nonprofits and has taken advantage of many ecological and cultural opportunities offered. Ms. DeMott is an Emergency First Response trainer and has led groups on multi-day back-country, climbing, caving, canoeing, and field studies throughout the East Coast, Hawaii, and Costa Rica. In her free time, Ms. DeMott enjoys playing Legos with her 8 year old son, sailing her Hobie to great snorkel spots, playing with her border collie Mookie, and riding her purple, rainbow sparkled chopper. Monday, January 20th : No School - MLK Day Third Quarter started with students learning Hands-Only CPR and how to approach emergency scenarios. Classes are creating public service announcements to help teach and motivate other KCS kids to help when help is needed.
